How video translation services have initiated technology in various fields?
Video Translation Services
for Medical Conferences
Non-English
speaking patients often find it difficult to communicate their problems with
the hospital staff. This sometimes leads to misdiagnosis and wrong treatment. West
Chester Hospital has issued iPads for the patient’s bedside to access the
certified translators in more than 10 languages. The iPads are available on
stands and wheels three feet tall.
In the case of Fort Hamilton Hospital and Mercy Health to
Fairfield Hospital the plan is to introduce
video translation Vanan Services. According to the US Census Bureau taken in the year
2011, around one million people or 21 percent of those from the age of 5 or
older speak other than English at home. According to Dr. Marcus Romanello, the Chief Medical Officer at Fort Hamilton
Hospital, Spanish the most popular language spoke by patients in the hospital.
The hospital also has a certified interpreter on their staff payroll for about
40 hours in a week and many are bilingual
physicians.
Translation
Services benefitting the Patients
In some cases, the
hospital uses a third party phone service
during weekends and off-hours. Fort
Hamilton also plans to start an internet-based
video conference system named MARTTI interpreted as ‘My Accessible Real-Time Trusted Interpreter’, which is
already in use at Kettering Health Network. This is capable of translating majority of languages.
In the case of Middletown
hospital, the staffs are designated to
take care of language barriers through a contract with Vocal Link Program especially for volunteer interpreters. Moreover,
the MARTTI system is used as it is able to translate over 400 languages. In
most cases the health systems use
contracted audio and video translation services. There are over 70 phones
across Fairfield hospital and these are
used to translate patient information with the help of dual headsets to the
nurses.
Reason to Choose a
Professional Translation Company
The video translation company is the best option for
patients suffering from hearing issues. Around 75 percent of translation needs
are for Spanish while the rest are for French, Russian, Arabic and Nepalese. The
Fairfield hospital receives around 450 calls per month for translation and another
200 for site visits every month.
The online translation services are first tested before
the program is actually launched to ensure there is clarity in picture and
sound. In the Fairfield Hospital, there
are two computers that are allotted for video conferencing. When a foreign
patient visits a health center, they will be daunted particularly with their
family not around them; in such cases
speaking in a foreign language is comforting.
Penetration of Translation
Technology into Medical Services
The patients are starting to love the iPad with the video
translation being an added advantage. For over 11 years it was an audio-only translation service, but now it has become video online translation
services too. Patients feel that it gives a relaxed and personalized feeling.
There are various online translation services available
in West Chester round the clock. They are able to translate over 10 languages
including Vietnamese, Russian, Arabic, Mandarin, Korean and are available
between 8 am to 11 pm on weekdays and on audio 24/7. The iPad program provided
by a translation company also includes emoticons and close captioning for
pediatric patients.
